|Visitors to next month’s camexpo event at London’s Earls Court on 20-21 October will enjoy an increased opportunity to expand their knowledge base, following the confirmation of twelve new Keynote speakers for 2012.
The UK’s only dedicated professional holistic event, camexpo offers a unique opportunity for thousands of complementary and natural healthcare professionals to equip themselves with the latest research and advice they need to advance their business. With over half of the show’s 22 free Keynote seminars (in two Revital-sponsored theatres) set to be hosted by first time speakers, visitors will find this year’s CPD-accredited education programme is packed full of a host of new and inspirational content.
New Keynote speakers for 2012 include camexpo 2011’s Outstanding Achievement Award winners Meghan Mari and Rachel Fairweather, directors and co-founders of the Jing Institute of Advanced Massage Training; nutritionist Juliet Haywood; Simon Martin, editor of CAM Magazine; Professor Mei, director of the AcuMedic Clinic; nutritional and clinical PNi therapist Margo Peinemann; and Dr Elke Theuwissen, discussing the importance of vitamin K in managing cardiovascular risk; and leading foot reader Jane Sheehan.
“What better way to spend my time off than immersing myself in learning more about what is ultimately my passion – helping others to heal themselves," comments Sheehan, a regular visitor to the show for the last few years, who will be hosting her first camexpo speaker session on Sunday 21 October.
“camexpo is a wonderful way to keep up to date with new developments and research in natural healthcare and to meet fellow researchers,” says Professor Dan Burke about his speaker debut, which will outline the work on ‘Salvestrols and CYP1B1’ that led to the identification of natural plant compounds called Salvestrols, which are said to hold promise for cancer therapy without side effects.
"camexpo is more than a trade event,” agrees leading naturopath Benjamin Brown ND, who’ll be introducing visitors to the latest science and nutritional solutions for detox and weight loss to stay ‘Clean and Lean’. “It is a unique opportunity to be part of new innovations and ideas in the complementary medicine industry. I am flattered to be a part of camexpo’s 10th year anniversary and be able to share new insights into the role of environmental toxins and obesity, a concept that was not even known about until very recently."
This year also marks the camexpo debut of Dr Marie Polley and Dr Kate James, who will be using their respective sessions on Saturday 20 October to discuss the role of integrative medicine in cancer care. Integrated medicine, which advocates combining all appropriate therapies (both conventional and alternative) for the treatment and prevention of illness, has always been a hotly discussed topic at camexpo and 2012 is certainly no exception.
Polley, a senior lecturer at the University of Westminster, will present evidence to show the benefit of working with people with cancer using an integrative oncology approach. Whilst James, a medical doctor who supported both her mother and daughter with integrative medical care after their diagnoses with cancer, will explore how high life force tonic foods can “promote improved physical, emotional and spiritual balance”.
Dr Marilyn Glenville, the UK’s leading nutritionist specialising in women’s health, and a regular speaker at camexpo, is also keen to promote the integrative approach. Saying that it’s important that practitioners “educate” patients on all the options available to them so they “can make informed decisions” about their own healthcare.
Glenville, who will once again be hosting two Keynotes at camexpo 2012, will be speaking on “using nutrition to balance female hormones” on Saturday 20 October, whilst her session on Sunday 21 October will focus on Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
“PCOS is such a debilitating condition for women because it not only affects how they look but also how they feel,” says Glenville. “Symptoms can include weight gain, hirsutism and acne, which can have both a physical and emotional affect and then the other issues, for example, infertility and recurrent miscarriages can have such a negative impact on the women’s lives. But there is overwhelming evidence in the medical literature that nutrition plays a significant role in controlling and treating PCOS and women need to know that this information is available to them.”
Other familiar faces at the show include Nutri-Link’s head of technical services Antony Haynes; Expectancy’s educational director Denise Tiran; ANH founder Dr Rob Verkerk; the CNHC's executive chair Maggy Wallace; the CThA’s chairman Kush Kumar; and Jayney Goddard, president of the CMA.
“camexpo is the most exciting, important and relevant complementary medical and natural healthcare show in the UK,” comments Goddard, who also returns to the Keynote stage for 2012. “I urge all practitioners – and indeed anyone with an interest in this field – to attend. You’ll learn lots, meet many new friends and you’ll come away bouncing with the positive energy and inspiration that this fabulous show creates.”
“camexpo is always a great opportunity to 'upgrade' with the latest thinking in complementary health,” agrees camexpo regular, leading nutritionist Patrick Holford, who’ll be hosting a session on Saturday 20 October. “I'll be talking about 'inflammaging', the fundamental biological switch that leads to disease and an earlier demise, and how to switch back to health and turn back the clock. I love having a full house of a wide range of practitioners and health conscious people."
The full Keynote programme is now available online at www.camexpo.co.uk, entry is included with a camexpo entry pass. Due to the anticipated popularity of these free Keynotes, camexpo’s organiser, Diversified Business Communications UK, are urging attendees to arrive at the venue as close to show opening as possible (10am on both days); as seminar seating is limited and allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
